Located at 33 on the list of the top 200 Sporting Schools for 2022 is St. Aidan’s Church of England High School in Harrogate (specifically, on Oatlands Drive).
The list is based on accomplishments in up to 20 different sports and was compiled by School Sport Magazine, the only UK publication dedicated to recognising school sports.
St. Aidan’s is a mixed Church of England secondary school and sixth form with academy status, and upon hearing the news, John Strover, the school’s head of physical education, praised the dedication of his colleagues.

“Recognizing students for their successes at the national level is great, but it should not be the only or even the most important metric used.

It’s a credit to the students and faculty who made this extra-curricular programme possible because it allowed them to excel academically while remaining accessible to a wide range of students.
This is only the second year that both private and public institutions have been included in the same Top 200 table.
Being ranked in the top 30 places the school in the top 1% of state and independent schools in the country when it comes to athletics, and being ranked in the top 100 places the school in the top 3%.
